Loren Nickel, owner and president of Store Marketing, has been helping independent grocers become more successful business owners since 1990. During the past two decades, Loren and his team have traveled east, west, north, south and all points in between, making stops in small towns, rural communities and urban neighborhoods. Along the way, they learned a thing or two about the grocery business. Loren, and his team, have managed to build enduring relationships with hundreds of store owners who count on Store Marketing for simple solutions to complex challenges.

Loren and a partner built Store Marketing from the ground up – literally. The company began in the basement of his suburban Kansas City home in 1991. Steady growth and success prompted Loren to end the partnership three years later. In 1995, Loren acquired  Wehrle & Associates, an Alabama-based firm founded in 1959, making Store Marketing the undisputed promotions leader for independent grocers. Our proven customer loyalty programs and special promotional campaigns have helped thousands of grocers across the country increase sales and profits- keeping many coming back year after year.  

2012 Marks 53 Years of Marketing Support for Independent Grocers

1959. Wehrle & Associates launches its first grocery store promotions in northwest Alabama. Over the next three decades, the company earns the trust and respect of independent grocery retailers across the country.

1990. Loren Nickel joins Wehrle & Associates.

1991. Loren Nickel and a partner launch Store Marketing Associates, a small start-up based in a Kansas City suburb. The company’s reputation for outstanding service, creative promotional programs and excellent results propels rapid growth.

1994. Partnership ends and Loren moves forward with 100% ownership of the company.

1995. Store Marketing rolls out Power Punch™, an innovative and cost-effective promotion that taps into vendor dollars to promote sales of targeted items.

1995. Loren acquires Wehrle & Associates upon the owner’s retirement, significantly expanding the strength and reach of Store Marketing.

2000. The market presence of Store Marketing continues upward with introduction of the Construction Cash Program. Program is designed to counter loss of traffic during road construction.

2005. As the threat of competition from big box national chains continues to rise, Store Marketing provides solutions that get results and empower independent grocers to compete against Wal-mart Supercenters, Target and Dollar Stores.

2011. Store Marketing celebrates 52 years of success serving independent grocers.
